This text describes Physical Intelligence 0.5, a novel approach to robotics that distributes computational power across a robot's body rather than relying solely on a central processor. This system features PI nodes acting as local reflex loops for immediate adjustments, alongside a Vision Language Action (VLA) model providing higher-level common sense and task planning. The VLA has been extensively trained on diverse real-world data, enabling the robot to generalise tasks to unfamiliar environments. This two-layered architecture allows the robot to perceive, decide, and act autonomously, leading to improved grip accuracy, reduced power consumption, and the ability to perform complex chores in unscripted settings by breaking down tasks into manageable sub-goals.
